Promising a “greener and grander” event, the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) is back with the much-awaited 3rd Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) on August 19 to 22 at the World Trade Center Metro Manila.

“The timing for CAMPI’s 3rd Philippine International Motor Show could not have been better. It is seen to further boost sales particularly given the positive effect of the relatively successful automated elections that help boost both consumer and business confidence,” said CAMPI President Elizabeth H. Lee at a press conference yesterday (June 16) at the Shangri-La Makati.

The influential automotive organization, which counts 19 of the world’s global brands as members, has revised its sales growth forecast to 11% – more than double its original forecast of 4% or an equivalent of 147,000 units for the year 2010. The country’s automotive manufacturers reported total vehicle sales rose 36.6% for the first five months of the year compared to the same period last year.

“We continue to expect robust sales for the year compared to last year with supply trying to keep up with the rising demand," said Ms. Lee, also the COO of Universal Motors Corporation.

“Factors that will continue to bolster vehicle sales include aggressive financing packages, making it easy and affordable for buyers to purchase their vehicles; OFW remittances, the engine of consumption, is expected to perform even better than last year; and the positive business and consumer confidence. 2010 will be an exciting year for both auto players and buyers,” added Ms. Lee.

This is one of the reasons CAMPI is “rolling out the green carpet” in line with the event theme “Drive the Green Road” that showcases the latest green technologies in fuel-efficient and alternative fuel-fed vehicles to include hybrids , and clean-burning, diesel-powered vehicles, and fuel-efficient gas engines, among others.

In addition to the exhibition of concept or prototype vehicles and the latest advancements in automotive technology, the show will also provide consumers with a much wider vehicle line up that will entice both motoring enthusiasts and well as buyers and the general motoring public.

This year’s motor show also features exciting automotive lifestyle events such as automotive photography and scale model exhibits, technical/garage workshops, outdoor activities such as car club meets and vehicle test drives; seminars on smart driving; presentations of CAMPI members, among many other activities; and a special auto financing promo by the BPI Family Savings Bank, CAMPI’s banking partner since the 1st Philippine International Motor Show. Also on its third year, the CAMPI’s 3rd Transport Design Competition will also showcase local talent of students from CAMPI’s partner schools.

CAMPI will also launch its environmental protection awareness campaign called “My Ride+Earth” to complement its ongoing advocacy on the issue of climate change. “Perhaps in our own small way, we can help spread awareness, provide information, help increase our understanding on what we as individuals can do to help mitigate climate change by lowering our carbon footprint through healthier daily habits that not only help save the environment, but help save money as well,” said Ms. Lee.

The advocacy involves greening the four-day motor show event itself – “a first in the world” – and making it an integrated corporate social responsibility initiative of CAMPI members, during and beyond the motor show. “We envision to create an eco-driven motoring community that consciously lives, breathes and drives green,” Ms. Lee stressed.

From 15 brands, there are now 20 brands participating in the CAMPI 3rd Philippine International Motor Show, which means more regional and global carmakers are now recognizing the Philippines’ growing significance as a viable auto market. More than a hundred vehicles are expected to be on display at the motor show, which will occupy a total floor space of 15,000 square meters to accommodate around 30 participating brands, including the numerous ancillary industries that make up the Philippine auto industry. CAMPI expects the number of visitors to exceed 60,000 visitors.

For the first time, CAMPI has also put together its first “Green Motoring Guide,” free for visitors of the PIMS, which contains tips on how to be fuel efficient and drive green.

Visitors from the mainstream and social media are also invited to join the 1st CAMPI Motor Show Media Awards by covering the four-day event and spreading the word to the motoring public. Recognizing the world-class appeal of the CAMPI 3rd Philippine International Motor Show, the event is also being covered by the international media.
