(CAMPI) has teamed up with The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-Philippines) to transform its upcoming 3rd Philippine International Motor Show as a venue for educating the motoring public on ways to reduce their carbon footprint to help address climate change issues.
CAMPI and WWF-Philippines will set up a Carbon Footprint Kiosk at the motor show at the World Trade Center in Pasay City on Aug. 19 to 22 so that visitors, estimated to top 60,000, will be able to calculate their contribution to the total amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
“Driving your car more efficiently is one of the significant ways to reduce your carbon footprint. You can make a difference everyday by adopting good habits,” said Elizabeth H. Lee, CAMPI president and chief operating officer of Universal Motors Corporation.
“Teaming up with WWF-Philippines is a good way to spread awareness on how much we contribute to climate change and what we can do about it. The Carbon Footprint Kiosk will help us put into concrete numbers our carbon footprint and give us a clear perspective on the difference we can make as individuals by adopting green habits,” she added.
The Carbon Footprint Kiosk uses software WWF-Philippines designed to calculate one’s carbon footprint. By simply answering a set of questions about your daily habits – from what you eat, how you drive or where you go – you will be able to know how much you use up the planet’s resources and how you can reduce your carbon footprint.
The CAMPI-WWF project is in line with CAMPI’s environmental protection awareness campaign called “My Ride+Earth” that supports its ongoing advocacy on the issue of climate change. Aside from showcasing the latest green technologies in fuel-efficient and alternative fuel-fed vehicles to include electric vehicles, hybrids and clean-burning, diesel-powered vehicles, and fuel-efficient gas engines, among others, CAMPI is also undertaking initiatives to make the motor show a “greener” event.
In line with the theme “Drive the Green Road,” CAMPI has also adopted ways to reduce the carbon footprint of the event itself. This is being done by raising its exhibitors’ and suppliers’ consciousness about the waste that will be generated during the show, limiting the use of paper and maximizing the use of online resources in the registration process, and promoting the use of recyclable materials.
The first 5,000 daily visitors of the motor show will also receive copies of CAMPI’s “Green Motoring Guide” which will contain helpful tips on efficient driving.
CAMPI is also enjoining young visitors and their families to donate or “recycle” old toy cars for the poor. Under its “More Smiles, Less Piles” activity, CAMPI will gather and give all donated toy cars to charitable organization Caritas Manila which raises funds for the urban poor through its segunda mano project. Kids who visit the “More Smiles, Less Piles” booth at the motor show will get a special “good deed” badge when they donate their toy cars.
CAMPI has also produced seven viral video clips that contain helpful tips on what people can do to reduce their fuel consumption, reduce their carbon emissions and to help stop pollution. The “My Ride+Earth” viral video clips can be viewed on YouTube (simply search ‘CAMPI’ and ‘green motoring tips’) and on the official site of the 3rd PIMS, www.campiauto.org/motorshow.
